INTERACTIVE CONCERTS IN SCHOOLS
Tuesday 18th – Friday 21st October 2011
EIMEAR MCGEOWN, Classical and Irish Flute, Ryan Molloy, keyboards
Originally from Co Armagh, flautist Eimear McGeown has established a busy and varied career as a classical flautist winning First Prize ‘Best Performer’ by unanimous vote at the Sir James Galway International Masterclasses 09 in Switzerland. Eimear also plays Traditional Irish Flute and Whistle and was All Ireland Champion twice. Her versatility has led to her performing in the West End Production of 'Lord of the Rings in Theatre Royal, Drury Lane'.
Accompanied by Ryan Molloy, Eimear will undertake a series of eight concerts in primary schools in the Southern Education and Library Board area in October. The 45 minute concerts aimed at P4-7 children will include lively pieces of contemporary, classical and traditional music, with plenty of opportunities for audience participation.
The programme will include Great Train Race by Ian Clarke - a fun piece for solo flute which uses contemporary techniques including singing while playing and harmonics to make the piece sound like a train race!
Children will:
• Listen and respond to classical, contemporary and traditional music
• Explore the characteristics, patterns and structures within the music
• Learn about flutes and whistles and how their sound is produced
• Participate in the music making using voice and body
Approx 800 children will attend the concerts across eight performances in seven schools in the Southern Education and Library Board area including Dungannon, Portadown, Armagh and Crossmaglen.
