"This is great music" Bob Harris

American roots music sensations, The Wiyos (named after an old Irish street gang) drew the attention of the folk music scene with their mastery of vintage acoustic performances.

By late 2008 they had begun work on 'Broken Land Bell'. This was a contemporary studio production with half the band plugged in, with guest beat boxer, Adam Matta laying down rock and trip-hop beats under syncopated swing and New Orleans based rhythms.

They made their first major impact on BBC TV with Seasick Steve, filmed at the Barbican's big Folk America extravaganza. In 2009, they went out on a 27-date run of US baseball stadiums with Bob Dylan, in 2010, they wowed a capacity crowd at Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow and scored such an outstanding success that they got an invitation to return.

Now a five-piece band with a brand new album, "Twist" which has been noted as their most ambitious album to date, they are back for another UK tour. Reviewers on both sides of the Atlantic have written great things about the 'live' performances and recordings. After playing tracks several times on his BBC Radio 2 programme, Bob Harris told listeners: "This is great music", The Los Angeles Times said they were: "A Pure Joy", while No Depression described them as a "Once-in-a-lifetime experience".
