Oppenheimer
Belfast?s own indie pop duo Oppenheimer take their second album on a live all Ireland tour. The album brazenly titled ?Take the Whole Midrange and Boost It? is due out February ?08 on Fantastic plastic (UK) and Bar None Records (USA).
No doubt Oppenheimer are a thinking man?s pop, as hackneyed as the term may
be. The new record embraces some pretty obscure themes and the bands soaring visceral approach is pure pop for now people, winning the love of friends, fans and press alike. All but one song on the new album embodies Oppenheimer?s trademark epic synth and guitar driven pop, but with equally varied tones. The other track entitled ?The Never Never? is an appropriately heavy-handed song, featuring Matt Caughtran of thrash-punk godheads, The Bronx.
To date the band have shared a stage with names like Tilly and The Wall, Architecture in Helsinki, Regina Spektor, Hot Chip and They Might be Giants, whom Oppenheimer recently supported on a 50 date stateside tour in Autumn ?07.
This year the press have gone wild for Oppenheimer and they were voted, ? #1 Most Likely To Succeed Amongst Irish Music Professionals? by Alternative Ulster. They hit #37 in the CMJ Top 200 and Hot Press said, ?their warm electro pop make Oppenheimer stand apart in a city dominated by guitar bands?.
It is quite fitting that Moving on Music now present a full Oppenheimer tour of NI/ROI since it was Moving on Music that presented Oppenheimer?s debut live show.
